Cargo Expands in Canada

Miki Velemirovich appointed as president of Canadian Operations

TORONTO, January 31, 2019– The Cargo Agency (Cargo), a leading North American business- to- small business (B2SB) marketing agency, is pleased to launch the latest chapter of its growth in the Canadian market with additional investments and the appointment of a new president in Canada.

Headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina, Cargo opened its Toronto office in 2013. To service both the short and long-term growth opportunities identified throughout North America, a number of exciting hires are driving the agency’s recent success, namely the appointment of Miki Velemirovich as president of Canadian operations.

Mr. Velemirovich is the right candidate to lead the charge. He is an experienced marketing expert with over 20 years of big brand experience at companies such as Mercedes-Benz and IBM. After immigrating to Canada from Croatia as a teenager, Mr. Velemirovich graduated from Brock University with an honours degree in business administration, with a focus on finance and economics. He later earned his MBA from Schulich School of Business with a specialization in marketing.

Prior to Cargo, Mr. Velemirovich spent 12 years working for Mercedes-Benz Canada. Throughout his tenure, he took on a number of roles and high-profile projects including the launch of the connected car platform for the North American market, and with it, a digital reinvention and transformation of the customer experience. While leading marketing for the commercial vehicle division, Mr. Velemirovich closely studied the behaviors and motivations of small businesses and discovered just how emotional their purchase behaviour is. This insight made him realize the need for big brands, like Mercedes-Benz, to change their marketing approaches to effectively reach this valuable group.

It was during this time period when he was first introduced to the Cargo team. The agency was brought in to build a new website for Mercedes-Benz Vans’ division and after surpassing expectations was brought on as the Agency of Record (AOR) for Mercedes-Benz Vans. They remained as AOR until Mr. Velemirovich’s departure after a successful six years, reaching leading market share in Canada.

In addition, Nicolas Rouleau also joins the Toronto Cargo office as client engagement manager on the Mercedes-Benz Vans Canada account where he will lead the planning and implementation of all account campaigns. This new growth in Canada Cargo’s investment in talent and infrastructure around North America, including the addition of four new associates in their South Carolina headquarters.
